    Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)

At Sona Bata Psychological Services (SBPS), we understand that navigating school evaluations can be complex. Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) provide families with an objective, thorough assessment to better understand a child’s learning, cognitive, and behavioral needs. IEEs are often requested when parents or guardians seek additional insight beyond a school evaluation or are planning individualized education programs (IEPs) and accommodations.

Our IEEs combine evidence-based assessment with culturally responsive practices, ensuring each evaluation reflects the unique strengths, challenges, and experiences of the child. We collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to provide clear, practical recommendations that support academic and social success.

Who May Benefit from an IEE?

IEEs are appropriate for children who:

    - Are experiencing academic difficulties despite school interventions
    - May have learning disabilities, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental differences
    - Require individualized recommendations for school accommodations
    - Are involved in educational advocacy or special education planning

    What Does an IEE Assess?

An Independent Educational Evaluation provides a comprehensive understanding of a student’s learning profile, educational needs, and overall functioning within the school setting. Areas assessed may include:

    - Intellectual and cognitive functioning
    - Academic skills (reading, writing, mathematics)
    - Attention and executive functioning
    - Memory, processing speed, and learning efficiency
    - Emotional, behavioral, and social functioning
    - Adaptive functioning and daily living skills when appropriate
    - Educational strengths, challenges, and need for supports or accommodations

This comprehensive approach allows us to identify both strengths and areas of need, clarify educational concerns, and provide meaningful, actionable recommendations to support academic success and overall well-being.

    What Does an IEE Include?

A comprehensive IEE at SBPS typically includes:

    - A detailed developmental, educational, and psychosocial interview
    - Cognitive and academic testing
    - Behavioral and attention assessments
    - Review of educational records and prior testing
    - Observations in natural or structured settings when appropriate

All information is integrated into a detailed report with practical, actionable recommendations for school and home.

    After the Evaluation...

Families receive a comprehensive written report that includes:

    - Clear explanation of findings
    - Recommendations for educational supports, accommodations, and interventions
    - Guidance for IEP development or educational advocacy

A feedback session is also provided to review results, answer questions, and support families in planning next steps.

SBPS provides Independent Educational Evaluations for school-aged children in Laurel, Columbia, Baltimore, and surrounding Maryland communities. Our goal is to provide families and educators with clear, actionable information to support informed educational decision-making.
